album packaging design
Based on the beautiful photography by Alexandros Lambrovassilis (New York), this packing for Origin makes a landmark in Joe Locke‘s work and a special creative project for me. The earthy yellow and brown tones stem from a daytime photo session at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Manhattan’s Lincoln Center – a personal favourite spot on New York’s music scene for Joe Locke. As a consequence, the album’s creative concept became a visual display of the deep and intrinsic connection between the artist, the musicians, the composer and his humanity.
The jewel case is not our favourite packaging. Too fragile and heavy, ecologically unjustifiably counterproductive and aesthetically dissatisfying. But since at least the inner tray can be made transparent, the seamlessness of a digipak can somewhat be replicated.
Origin Records did a great job ensuring best quality print and manufacturing.
“Force Of Four” was only the 2nd album design for Joe Locke, and the creative relationship has since produced a total of seven CD artworks. A long term collaboration I am immensely proud of.
